RHAPSODY OF FIRE announce new studio album “Dark Wings Of Steel”

RHAPSODY OF FIRE and AFM Records are proud to announce that the new and long awaited studio album will be entitled “Dark Wings Of Steel” and it will be released in Europe on November 22nd (Europe), December 3rd (USA).

All recordings, mix and mastering are finally completed. “Dark Wings Of Steel” was produced by Alex Staropoli, all songs composed by Alex Staropoli and Manuel Staropoli, with the collaboration of Roby De Micheli.
All lyrics were written by Fabio Lione, and beside the rhythm section with Alex and Oliver Holzwarth, it will also
feature a full orchestra, a great choir, and real instruments as in the best RHAPSODY OF FIRE tradition.
“Dark Wings Of Steel” will be released as CD, Digipak and double-Vinyl. Digipak and Vinyl are about to include a
bonus track.

I'm feeling positive about this. No mention of Tom Hess. The title is dull, but that's nothing new. I'm interested by the fact that along there are two Starship brothers composing, along with de Micheli. And it's only two months away.

Well, i just don't wanna see lyrics similar to vision divine. I like VD, but Luca lyrics fit with Rhapsody better... I don't know if Fabio can put all the cheesiness that Luca did.

We haven't seen any song titles yet, but if we can judge by the album title that shouldn't be a problem. PS. I reckon Fabio doesn't even write much lyrics for VD.

Fabio has written the lyrics for two whole albums at least. One was the album of Athena titled "A New Religion?" and the other was the first album of Labyrinth titled "No Limits".

@Lorenzo: Please do not compare Luca's lyrics with Gloryhammer. This guy from Alestorm just copies their theme in a really crappy way.

Now as far as Fabio goes I'm curious to read them as he has almost never written epic lyrics and it will be interesting me thinks...

Aw damn. Didn't notice that a thread had been created. Could a mod delete my post in the attack topic then, please?

I lol'ed when I read that lyrics were composed by Fabio. I don't mean to disrespect the guy, but I don't think he's good at writing lyrics. Do you guys remember his eurobeat songs? I do.

Quote

Bent on lovin' you is what I need
(I'll) Swallow my pride for you
I just wanna take another chance
And get you forever

Let's go down down to town
Take my hand and get my rhythm
Just one step more
Open the back door... Take off the raincoat

Gettin' you gettin' me... Gettin' again...
Another time with you, girl!
Lovin' you lovin' me... Lovin' again
I'm ready now to discover you, babe
Gettin' you gettin' me... Gettin' again...
Another night for you, girl!
Rockin' you rockin' me... Rockin' again
I'm ready now come on to you, babe

Just another night to celebrate
(I'm) Cravin' again for you
I don't wanna wait another day
My heart is on fire

They should have asked sushibarf to write the lyrics. Oh my... Can you imagine? That would have been epic.

Wat? Dark Wings of Steel sounds exactly like something Gloryhammer would've had on that album they released.

I suppose Jonaz is correct, but this sounds even more cheesy and lazy than usual. It's like they didn't feel like putting any thought to it, so they went for the "RoF album/song title generator", pressed a button and got this one. It follows the mathematical equation of their titles anyway.

Adjective + Noun + of + different Noun

And the fact that it has steel in the title makes it even funnier.

I had no expectations. But I guess I coulda figured they'd take the easy way out.

Unless the album deals with steel birds of the apocalypse, but I'm probably giving them too much credit by even suggesting that.

it is normal that they choose a title like that. There are tons of fans who need to see that they'll still listen to the themes they love. Of course it is anything other than innovative, but I'm sure that at this moment of the band's career it is unwise to experiment too much...

Of course. After all, why fix something that isn't broken? I don't see them taking any risks that would annihilate their fanbase. They've been dropped by Nuclear Blast, Luca's album fared (I think) very well... They need their new album to be a success.

Maybe Fabio will copy/paste lyrics from the old albums... :D

Hopefully not... :p

In the other albums he had written the lyrics for, he had explored other themes, so perhaps there will be that title song and the other lyrics will deal with other things...

Surprise, surprise, I find myself agreeing with Lorenzo:
Gloryhammer isn't just a cheap rip-off like Ancient Bards, it actually satirizes the whole cheesy, generic Power Metal-genre.
Now I'm not saying generic PM is a bad thing -- it can be quite enjoyable -- but while some bands keep changing influences, others re-visit their old styles in cycles, and yet others -- like Rhapsody (of Fire) -- never try any 'couragous' changes: which means always similar cover-art, album titles, track titles, album build-up etc., which gets pretty cheesy in the long run...

Thirdly:
Has Manuel ever written any music for Rhapsody before? With his more classical training RoF might actually break free of that cheesy monotony I just mentioned. (On the whole, unlikely...)

I have a morbid curiosity of hearing that, just to see how it sounds without Luca. Other than that, I have nothing to do here!!

Maybe. Probably? The album's title screams CHEESEFEST as far as I'm concerned, but I can't picture Fabio writing anything as cheesy as Luca's lyrics were. If I recall correctly, Fabio has never been into that Fantasy/ Dungeons & Dragons stuff.

Either that or they are a very very bad copy.

@Nazamout: Yes you are correct. At least initially. In the later years of the band he had come to appreciate the fantasy setting a bit more. Now whether that will translate in epic fantasy lyrics still remains to be seen...

DARK WINGS OF STEEL, as opposed Wings of steel that isn't dark. I'm guessing this album is about an airplane or some kind of jet fighter plane, what with the wings being made of STEEL and all.... oh wait.... a DARK jet fighter plane.

I am unaware of Manuel's contributions to Rhapsody's music on the composition front, but sure as hell am I interested to see the results. And there's no Hess, so I can't see why the album couldn't be good.

Let's see. Maybe that Luca was the real mastermind and without his epic touch of holy cheese, Steroidopoli will not be able to deliver? This new album will tell us how he can fare without Luca as his partner in cheesefest.

Besides, in my opinion, Fabio is past his prime. I guess that most, if not all, of you, won't agree with me on this, but that's what I think. I prefer Conti over Lione, to be honest.

I'm not sure if he's past his prime, but I'm kinda tired of his voice too. So yes, I prefer Conti.

I also agree that Fabio is past his golden days, but I still prefer him over Conti. Not that the latter would be any bad or anything, but I think Fabio has a more personal sound, if you know what I mean.

If by that you mean that he has a very distinctive voice, then yeah, I do agree with you. You know it's Fabio when you hear that overdone, goat-like vibrato.

It's not that I'm a big fan of his recent live performances; that I don't like too much. He's overdoing it by far. But on FCTE, for instance, he did great imo.

I much rather listen to his harsh vocals than clean ones.
