This could be a topic for discussion but actually, it's more a topic for help :

After tasting those delicious atmospheres :

I'm kinda in need for more. I know this is not really music but it gives so many emotions, feelings, and brings back memories in such a way, that I fell in love. And this kind of music could help me when I first am the narrator in roleplays.

If you know ambient noise, whatever the emotion, no matter if there's a small musical bridge or anything, put it here! :)

When I click on the first, I thought Youtube was possessed and almost threw my comp at the window. Well, not the latter part but the first yeah.

The second is nice actually. Or it just starts nice.

Hanatarash is awesome. Side-project of my favorite band Boredoms.

Yeah, Hanatarash was awful. The other was obviously better.

Lustmord is a household name when it comes to (dark) ambient.

Or his best piece, which isn't on Youtube, Prime.

As well as some Robert Rich.

This one is good. Reminds me a bit of some Metroid Prime atmospheres. Yet, it takes a weird "melodic" turn very early.

I just started this one. This is only a mix, not an actual album, but the first track is EXACTLY what I'm actually searching for. The atmosphere is so damn thick <3

Just stumbled upon something I'd like to share, although I'm not 100% sure it belongs in this thread... :hummm:

You know the saying "don't judge a book by its cover"? Well, let me introduce you to Goatcraft, a one-man project from the US of A. First, you've got the name... "Goatcraft" and when you look at the youtube picture, you'll probably think "aaaww this is going to sound like another wannabe evil trve kvlt black metal band", right? Well, that pretty much sums up what I thought of Goatcraft at first, that is, until I hit the play button.

That's right. Dark, ambient, gothic, neoclassical piano work. Lulz. It's one of a kind. The complete album, All For Naught, is available for streaming on bandcamp and the CD version can be purchased via Forbidden Records.

I might get it at some point.

Well there's really no place for piano music per se, so might as well.

First of all, I was 100% sure it was gonna be awful, even if it was you who posted this, but alas. It's pretty intriguing. Although I play and compose piano-stuff among other things, I don't really listen to any piano music (Dax Johnson and that's it), but this has some cool elements. I'm not exactly into this kind of super over-the-top gothic Dracula bullshit; I very much prefer something like what Gris made with La Dryade, but for what Goatcraft is, it seems to be surprisingly good. I love the fast paced arpeggio runs; as some reviewer fittingly wrote "baroque style energetic keyboard runs, endlessly scurrying across the piano like a plague of rats to gnaw on your soul."

That said, I only heard the first 4 songs or so, too tired. Checking the rest out later. Although with such specific type of music, you really need to be in a right mood to enjoy it.

Ah yes, it's definitely over-the-top... but it works rather well for me. The haunting atmosphere is simply mesmerizing, imo. But, yes, you're right in saying that this is not your everyday type of music.

I just finished listening to All For Naught in full and now I can say the CD will end up in my collection for sure.

AKLO, dark ambient inspired by the Lovecraftian mythos. (bandcamp)

Creepy.

that song is a remake of either one or several older songs (of the same name), which is why it's "The Last". RIP.

I never heard the whole thing. Fire of the Mind wasn't particularly good, while the other two were.

In my circle of friends Fire of the Mind is considered the most objectively best song in the world. I prefer the two others too, but I get what they're saying.

The music is fine, the vocals suck.

The vocals don't suck, but I also prefer Going Up and The Last Amethyst Deceiver.

It's been a while since I last listened to The Ape of Naples. I should do that. I would actually, if you guys stopped posting new music all over the place. So much stuff to listen to. I'm almost sleep deprived.

Vocals are fine when he doesn't sing, ala Last Amethyst Deceiver.

Hopefully they'll reissue Ape of Naples at some point. Unsurprisingly it's not exactly easily obtainable.

Out of curiosity, where did you get the first album? I bought the second one yesterday from a US-based distro and now, I'm looking to get the debut CD. But apart from the band's webstore, I didn't see any other places selling it. :o/ And no, I don't want to order from Wardruna directly... $35 for a regular CD is ridiculously pricey.

I just made a blind buy. Kind of. I was browsing Hypnotic Dirge's site and stumbled upon "A Banishing Ritual" by Blood Of The Black Owl in the experimental/eclectic section.

From what I've read, it's a one song album, but the track is divided into four parts. I heard the first segment and instantly loved the weird, dissonant, haunting vibe... and I just couldn't resist, I needed to order the CD. I didn't even listen to the rest of the album. O_o

A Banishing Ritual is streaming on bandcamp.

Wasn't bad. I wouldn't buy it, but for what it is, it wasn't bad. I think it was better when it was more musical.

That said, I'm not sure if I'll ever come across this kind of non-musical ambient that I'd actually care to buy. The only good ambient album I own is still very conventionally musical oriented ritual dark ambient. Exalted Are the Seven Throne Bearers of Ninnkigal by Equimanthorn in other words. Found some songs in Youtube.

You had me at "ritual dark ambient". :3

Those Equimanthorn songs weren't bad, but something was missing... I guess I was expecting something creepier, more otherworldly-sounding than that. And more hypnotic too. That being said, the second track was my favorite.

Those aren't the best tracks from that album, as far as I remember, but I haven't heard it in years. So I can't really even say what I'd think of it today. But going from memory, if you're looking for more tracks like Submissive Myth, I don't think there are any, it's more about the middle-eastern ritual desert stuff. Their earlier albums, or at least Lectionum Antiquarum which I also own, are more noisy, but I think at least that one is extremely monotonous and boring.

As a fun fact, Proscriptor from Absu was a member of the band in the past.
